The Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS) is based in Amman, Jordan and brings together scientists from 15 Arab countries at present. In their meeting on May 2, 2018, AUB’s Professor Mounib El Eid was elected to represent Lebanon on the AUASS upper committee for a period of three years.
The aims of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences are to promote astronomical and space sciences research in Arab counties; emphasize the role and heritage of astronomy in the Arab and Islamic world; support activities (such as conferences, schools, and programs) to promote astronomical knowledge in Arab countries; encourage publications in Arabic for the sake of unification of scientific items in Arabic; and create common centers for astronomical work.
