The AUASS, in cooperation with many astronomical bodies, held several seminars focusing on jurisprudential and astronomical issues, and the attempt to reach radical solutions in issues of concern to the Arab and Islamic worlds.

Hijri calendar symposium in light of scientific data

The Federation of Islamic Organizations in France organized jointly in cooperation with the European Council for Fatwa and Research and the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe: “The European Seminar on the Islamic Calendar” which was held in Paris, France 4 – 5 – February 2012. Many research papers were discussed by a group of jurisprudence and astronomers focusing on the Hijri calendar and the beginnings of the lunar months in light of scientific data and modern technology and finding a unified mechanism for the beginning of the months. The conferees came out with several recommendations and reached an astronomical jurisprudential agreement to resolve the intra-regional differences.

The meeting of the Committee for the Preparation of the Calendar of European Countries located between 48-66 degrees latitude:

A symposium was held on 10/8/1430 at the headquarters of the Islamic Center / Brussels  21-22 / 5/2009, to prepare a calendar for the countries of Europe located between the latitudes 48 – 66 N&S ,  which  was attended by a number of jurists and Astronomers and Muslim leaders in some European countries. A special committee was held at the headquarters of the Muslim World League in Makkah Al-Mukarramah to follow up the recommendations made by scholars regarding entering the times of Isha  and Fajer  prayers in those regions.

The first expert meeting to study the outlooks of the lunar months

For two days, on 9-10 / November 2006, the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture, the World Islamic Call Society and the Moroccan Society for Astronomy held a meeting of experts in order to study the sightings of the lunar months among Muslims within the axes Next research:

 

  1. Legal and jurisprudential aspects to control the lunar months
  2. Experiments and systems in place or proposed for that
  3. Recent directions for tuning the lunar months.

Seminar on crescents, times and astronomical techniques:

 

The Kuwaiti Scientific Club organized on    27/2 – 1/3 /1989   a symposium on crescents, timings and astronomical techniques. The symposium came out with many recommendations, including:

  1. There is no lesson for different views, so if the vision is proven in a country, it must be adhered to
  2. The sighting of the crescent is the original in establishing the beginning of the month and astronomical calculation is used
  3. The faculties of Sharia and law should focus on teaching astronomical sciences.

Seminar on the preparation of the calendar for European countries between latitude 48-66 degrees

 

On 21-22 / 5/2009  a symposium was held at the headquarters of the Islamic Center / Brussels  to prepare a calendar for the countries of Europe located between the latitudes 48 – 66 north and south, which  was attended by a number of jurists and Astronomers and Muslim leaders in some European countries.    On 10/8/1430 AH, a special committee was held at the headquarters of the Muslim World League in Makkah Al-Mukarramah to follow up on the recommendations reached by scholars regarding entering the times of evening and dawn prayers in those regions

The second meeting of experts to study the status of the Islamic calendar:

For a period of two days  15-16 / October 2008   the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture, the International Islamic Call Society and the Moroccan Society for Astronomy held the second expert meeting to develop and study the Islamic calendar within the research axes next:

 

  1. Legal and jurisprudential aspects to control the lunar months
  2. Experiments and systems in place or proposed for that
  3. Conditions of validity of the calendar. For more recommendations,

Seminar to achieve the times of the Fajr and Isha prayers:

The symposium on the investigation of the times of the Fajr and Isha prayers was held at the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research in Helwan – Egyp on March 19, 2000  . Several research papers were presented which discussed the apparent discrepancy between the timings recorded and between the newly inferred timings and In addition to many specialized papers, and at the end of the symposium, researchers came out with several recommendations, the most important of which is the emphasis on continuing research within the scientific and technical developments in this regard.

The sixth session of the Unified Hijri Calendar Committee

Based on the generous invitation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to host this symposium, the Unified Hijri Calendar Committee held its sixth meeting in Makkah Al-Mukarramah on 24 – 26 September 1985 under the chairmanship of His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdul bin Baz, General President of the Scientific Research Departments. The most important issue was the unification of the lunar months in the member states and others countries.
