space science and astronomy become among important branches of modern science in progressing and ascending the life of nations and peoples, and this aspect of science in our beloved Arab homeland has received great attention and great care from the wise and inspiring leaders in the Arab world.

The Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS) is one of the scientific beacons which its permanent headquarters is located in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and considered to be the starting point for disseminating scientific values and knowledge in the field of space and astronomy.

AUASS is formally established in 1998   at the invitation of the Jordanian Astronomical Society, and considered as an astronomical body concerned with space and astronomy sciences, based in the Jordanian capital – Amman

AUASS has grown and developed rapidly in recent years and now includes more than 500 Arab scientists and researchers in the field of astronomy and space technology. It has become one of the qualitative unions affiliated with the Council of Arab Economic Unity of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States since 2001, as well as a member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU). AUASS strongly seeks to provide all that is useful and beneficial to everyone, starting from students, amateurs, researchers, faculty member and staff in universities, and to everyone interested in space sciences and astronomy.

AUASS will strive to obtain scholarships in cooperation with Arab universities and other countries to provide qualified staff with scientific degrees in astronomy and space sciences, and it also seeks to qualify and develop their skills through training courses. On other hand they should also be urged to work on   knowledge and scientific aspect by writing research and publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The AUASS is suffering great scarcity of financial resources and the shortage of astronomy devices and equipment that serve scientific research.

The ambitions of AUASS is very high, as it strives to spread more astronomical bodies and institutions throughout the Arab world and to create a database for all Arab scientists and amateurs to be a reference for students in universities and amateurs alike.
