The Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences: Advancing Our Glory in Space and Astronomy Sciences

Twenty-five years have passed since colleagues, scientists, researchers, faculty members, specialists, Arab and Muslim enthusiasts in the fields of space and astronomy sciences gathered to establish a significant scientific and cultural entity—the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan graciously hosted the headquarters of this union since 1998, and by the grace of Allah, it remains steadfast.

Today, as we celebrate the silver jubilee of the establishment of this blessed union, we not only feel pride and honor but also the privilege of fulfilling this national, scientific, and religious duty as members of its supreme council. We worked diligently and faithfully to uphold integrity and dedication in the fields of space and astronomy sciences, inherited from our ancestors, Arab and Muslim scholars, who raised the banners of these sciences globally.

The Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences is a specialized Arab scientific and cultural institution focusing on space, astronomy, and atmospheric sciences, founded in 1998. Since its inception, it has made significant achievements in promoting Arab-owned space and astronomy centers and their accomplishments. Its responsibilities have grown in the face of significant advancements in space and astronomy sciences globally, particularly encouraging the establishment of astronomical and space societies and clubs in countries lacking such organizations.

Despite these achievements, the responsibilities of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences continue to increase, given the rapid advancements in space and astronomy sciences. Fortunately, many Arab countries have begun actively investing in these fields, establishing space agencies, astronomical observatories, and space science departments in universities, indicating a promising future for Arab astronomy and space sciences.

On this occasion of our beloved union’s silver jubilee, I express heartfelt gratitude to all my colleagues who have worked tirelessly to promote astronomical and space sciences in the Arab world and train youth in these vital disciplines. I wish success and progress to all and to our Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences in reclaiming our historical and global status in these essential and beneficial fields for humanity.

And Allah is the Bestower of success and guidance.

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Hamid M.K. Al-Naimiy

President of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences
