Foundation of AUASS
This union established in August 1998 as an outcome of the second Arab Conference on (AASS), held in Amman Jordan from 29 August to 1 September 1998. The participants included more than 100 astronomers and scientist from 14 Arab countries, in addition to observers from France, Italy and United States of America. The participants decided to establish the Union with headquarter to be in Amman. The aim of the union is to develop (AASS) in the Arab countries, for instance through conferences, meeting, publication and joint research projects, in cooperation with International (AASS) institutions.

The Union seeks to achieve the following goals:
1. Work to raise the status of astronomical and space sciences and raise their level to play its role in advancing progress and developing the Arab society scientifically and technically.
2. Building capacity in the research and development of satellites to narrow down the gap in the development of space infrastructure.
3. lPreserving the Arab and Islamic astronomical heritage and highlighting its role in the advancement of human civilization.

Twenty-five years have passed since colleagues, scientists, researchers, faculty members, specialists, Arab and Muslim enthusiasts in the fields of space and astronomy sciences gathered to establish a significant scientific and cultural entity the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan graciously hosted the headquarters of this union since 1998, and by the grace of Allah, it remains steadfast.
